Tellus LLC Qualifies for Grant to Help Create Dozens of High-Wage Tech Jobs

State award to include $180,000 in tax credits toward training of new workers at the company

Deerfield Beach, FL -- (SBWIRE) -- 11/08/2018 -- Tellus LLC, a leading provider of Electronic Visit Verification (EVV) solutions for the personal and home health care markets announced today it is under consideration for a state grant award for Florida's Quick Response Training program that will help fund 30 new high-paying technology jobs at the company.

The Division of Strategic Business Development of the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) determined Tellus is eligible to receive $180,000 in tax credits for the award contingent on the company creating at least 30 new full-time jobs at an average annual wage of $73,000 — a rate at least 150% higher than the average private sector job in Broward County.

The state-funded program, designed to fuel the competitiveness of Florida businesses globally provides grant funding for specialized, skills-based training to new or expanding businesses in Florida's targeted high skills industries. To qualify, businesses must have exportable goods or services and wages of 125 percent above state or local wages.

The program, lauded by economic developers and national business groups as the best for impacting their ability to win multi-state contracts, is also recognized by both the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the National Chamber Foundation in their annual rankings.

The grant provides tax incentives and direct funding to qualifying businesses to train their new, full-time employees. Funding is for one year and is based on performance criteria set by the state. Once approved for the program, businesses pay for direct training-related costs and are reimbursed by CareerSource Florida.

Tellus qualified for the grant as a result of its position operating within Florida's qualified target industry and designated high-impact sector, Information Services-Custom Computer Programming Services.

"We are extremely grateful to Governor Scott and the state DEO team as we continue to scale up our EVV platform to help meet the growing health care technology needs of patients and their providers," said Tellus CEO Brad Levine. "We look forward to contributing to Broward County's burgeoning tech workforce with the hiring of at least 30 new highly-skilled employees."

Implementation of EVV for Medicaid-reimbursed home health care providers became a national requirement in 2016 through the 21st Century Cures Act. In July 2018, H.R. 6042 was signed amending the initial deadline established by the Cures Act but still requiring personal care services to adopt EVV systems before January 2020 and home health services to have systems in place prior to January 1, 2023.

Founded in 2013, Tellus is headquartered in Deerfield Beach, Florida. The company, a provider of technology solutions for the mobile home health care market is the founding member of the National Electronic Visit Verification Association, an industry resource for EVV dedicated to providing information and support for states, managed care organizations and health care providers. The association's core mission is to establish industry standards and best practices in EVV delivery.
