Founder and Director of CityLife Jacki Breger Seeks Funding via Indiegogo to Empower Teenagers Facing Social Problems

Los Angeles, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 01/10/2014 -- Jacki Breger is the founder and director of CityLife, a small yet mighty program in Los Angeles that addresses two major social problems facing teenagers today.  The first, and most important, is that adolescents, particularly poor adolescents of color, are falling behind and dropping out. They often feel alienated from school, not listened to by adults and unable to get and hold decent jobs. The “tool” CityLife uses to address this is the second social problem they face, urban challenges.  Jacki believes that if young people analyze and offer solutions to these urban problems and see that they can have a positive impact, they will become active and engaged citizens and good neighbors now and in the future.

Over the years, CityLife has provided opportunities for teens to do real work in the real world, not only receiving academic and community service credit, but also the honor, recognition and thanks of community leaders from business, government and the arts.  With CityLife, no longer are the kids passive victims of public policy, the economy, or the school system.  As one teen put it, “I learned to take myself seriously and people really listened.”

The campaign goal is $30,000, which will help CityLife in two ways.  First, it will allow them to complete the school year, with staff and materials, free from worry. The second benefit of a successful campaign is that it will allow Jacki to focus a little more on her long term goal of securing the future of CityLife.

This campaign will receive all funds raised even if it does not reach its goal. Funding duration: December 27, 2013 - February 10, 2014 (11:59pm PT).
