The Abel Arts Collective Seeks Crowdfunding to Finance Their First Public Art Projects to Beautify the Brand New Health Center in Gigante, Nicaragua

Artist Erik Abel is traveling to the small village of Gigante, Nicaragua to paint a mural on the village's newly completed Community Health Center with the local youth group and other members of the community.

Ventura, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 02/28/2014 -- The Nicaragua Mural Project is the first project by the Abel Arts Collective, a nonprofit (501(c)3 status in the works) that partners with artists, developmental organizations and communities to create meaningful and inspirational public art projects.

For their first project, founding artist Erik Abel is traveling to Gigante, a small fishing village in Nicaragua. There, Abel will work with their partner nonprofit Project WOO, the Gigante Health Committee and local youth group to design and paint a mural representing what matters most to the community on their newly constructed Community Health Center. Project WOO led the development of the Center, which opened at the end of January 2014.

The Center is providing much needed access to health services to the village.

Until now, the closest clinic was 15 kilometers away. A doctor would come to visit the village every two weeks, seeing patients in a church with less than adequate conditions. The community was in need of their own clinic that offered privacy, running water, electricity, and comfort.

The Gigante Health Committee wants the Center to be bright and happy, encouraging locals to get the access to the health services and education they need in an inviting atmosphere. Abel will concept the mural with the local youth group and the people of Gigante before inviting all to participate in the painting of the mural. The goal is to create something meaningful for the community with the community, something that strengthens the success of the Center.

Abel Arts Collective is raising $5000 to cover the cost of the trip. This will cover their art supplies (paint, paint brushes, tarps, tape, buckets) and the cost of their travel to and from Nicaragua and lodging in Gigante.

Additional funds raised will be donated between nonprofits:

Project Woo to support their existing and upcoming development projects in Central America (half of extra funds raised past goal)

Abel Arts Collective to support our next art development project (half of extra funds raised past goal)

This campaign will receive all funds raised even if it does not reach its goal. Funding duration: February 04, 2014 - March 24, 2014 (11:59pm PT).
