Mugo Muna Starts Kickstarter Campaign for the Creation of One of a Kind 'Bora Wear: Belts That Matter'

Handmade belts created with care and dedication by artisans in Nairobi, Kenya.

Nairobi, Kenya -- (SBWIRE) -- 07/22/2014 -- Kenyan born Mugo Muna moved to the States when he was eleven. After graduating Cornell University, he returned to Kenya to something that mattered. After trying unsuccessfully to launch a men’s shirt line with a group of HIV positive women, he re-grouped and started a search for a product where he could use his skills paired with an artisans’ skills and founded Bora Belts.

Bora Belts are hand crafted belts by local artisans in Kenya using the highest quality local Kenyan leather from a tannery called Alpharama , in a variety of colors. The buckle itself is made from scrap metal making each belt an environmental coup. Each mold is destroyed after the belt is made, making each belt one-of-a-kind. Each belt will go through a melting process, a pouring process, a cooling process and after a nice wash, wearers will be the talk of the town sporting one of three styles – the Pilipiki – a hammered brass design; Tamu, a natural style, and Safi, which is ground and polished to a shine. This hands- on manufacturing process ensures each belt is made by human hands and can be worn with pride. It will arrive in a super cool, funky colored packaging.

If wearing this belt wasn’t a perk enough, the campaign offers some one of a kind perks as well - - a postcard mailed to the backer from Kenya with a handwritten message, designed by a local graphic artist called Wambui Kabue, printed in Kenya. a handmade leather and brass enclosed bracelet; a trip to Kenya for a week (airfire not included).

As they say, It’s all in the name: Bora is a swahili word meaning: first-rate, excellent, better, or best. And these belts fit the bill, or should we say, pants.

The funding goal for this campaign is $12,785 and launches July 22,2014
