Over 85 employees of Thackray Crane Rental attended the event, which took place at the Ironworkers Hall in Northeast Philadelphia. As per tradition, the evening commenced with a catered dinner and social hour, followed by an engaging agenda with several guest speakers, notably including Sportsradio 94WIP's Big Daddy Graham.
Evening topics covered a range of safety initiatives. The introduction was provided by Operations Safety Director, Mark W. Thackray. Director of Safety Services at Diamond Tool, Dan Kane, elaborated on fall protection equipment, specifically safety harnesses; Founder of Safety at South Jersey, Deane Smith, discussed wind load evaluations; Risk Manager and Loss Control Manager at NationsBuilders Insurance Services, Joe Doerr and John Schoppert, summarized new mobile equipment training that will launch this fall.
As a renowned radio and television personality, comedian and writer, Big Daddy Graham delivered a number of inevitable jokes, but also offered motivating words of wisdom for attendees. Recalling his successful battle with throat cancer in 2010, he felt fortunate to have caught it early on and encouraged everyone in the audience to always trust one's instinct when it comes to personal health and well-being. Both his lighthearted humor and sage advice were very well received by the entire audience.
In appreciation of employee dedication to safety, the company awarded door prizes and recognized employees who go above and beyond expectations. Longtime crane operator, Anthony Capozzi, was complimented for his professionalism, impeccable paperwork and undisputed timeliness. Fellow crane operator, Rocco DiSalvo, was acknowledged for his proactive approach when alerting the safety team of potential hazards and job issues when applicable.
