Seegrid Walk Through Part of Lean Initiative Improving Efficiency and Solving Materials Flow Issues

Pittsburgh, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/27/2014 -- Seegrid, makers of automated guided vehicles (AGVs), discussed if an automated solution will improve efficiency or solve a materials flow problem in a recent company blog.

Seegrid recommend the following steps to determine the degree of automation solution support.

1. Confirm whether the facility has the physical environment and organizational buy-in to support an automated process.

2. Analyze the total flow of materials throughout the facility and identify areas where there can be improvements. Collect all product movement data (distances, frequencies, spikes, systemic behaviors throughout the different shifts) to see where there can be improvements. It is important to use tools such as process maps and value stream mapping to accurately analyze material flow.

3. Define whether automation solution solves the organization’s inefficiencies. Evaluate AGV material handling applications including productivity gains, controlled material flow, improved safety, reduced product or facility damage, or reduced labor and operating costs.
Seegrid walk the facility whether a distribution center or large manufacturing plant; the company evaluates if the product has the capabilities of meeting needed requirements and identify areas where the bottom line can be improved.
