Chicago Filmaker Launches Kickstarter to Make TRANSfiguration

Controversial Documentary Explores Transgender Faith Leaders

Chicago, IL -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/06/2014 -- More than 400 years ago, William Shakespeare wrote, “Unto thine own self be true, and then it must follow… that thou canst not then be false to any man.” But what happens when someone discovers that their most basic personal affinity is contrary to their upbringing and to their religious understanding? Sadly, the world has a long history of such troubled people. Yet they find that when they are honest and true to themselves, they land crosswise to their community.

Faith is defined as a 'confidence not based on proof'. For those in Ministry, faith is a firm conviction in a calling that may sometimes prove controversial. At times, those who are called must grapple with controversial questions on topics such as sexuality and procreation. All faiths are built around fundamental practices that define what it means to follow that faith. There are times when faith and practice collide bringing to bear questions that are tough to answer such as abortion or euthanasia. Trust in a Higher power can come down to questioning oneself at a time when confidence, not based on proof, and individual truth collide. Everyone has defining events in their walk of faith, but when that moment in the life a Minister’s is found to be so personal, as well as extremely foreign to their parish, it can be life-affirming or devastating. One Chicago filmmaker tackles this topic in a controversial new documentary film looking into the lives of Faith leaders who are also on a journey of discovery within themselves. In a world between genders and between spiritual and physical, these Ministers find their way home.- TRANSfiguration has launched a Kickstarter campaign to help fund that exploration.
