Michael Hanson and the Desolate Woods: Gripping & Fantastical New Teen-Fiction Series Weaves Magic with Bold Life Lessons of Love & Independence

Masterfully crafted by E.L. Ervin, ‘Michael Hanson and the Desolate Woods’, book one of ‘The Powers of Ezron’ series, tells the coming-of-age story of Michael Hanson – whose golden armband has always seen him treated as an outcast at school. He cherishes the love of his family, and life takes an adventurous turn just before his fifteenth birthday when the symbol on his armband begins to glow and he wakes up floating over his bed. This engrossing narrative not only imparts a story that will keep young readers on the edge of their seats, but it serves as a bold reminder that their parents love them, even at a time when it’s vital for them to find their own way in the world.

Virginia Beach, VA -- (SBWIRE) -- 11/14/2014 -- There’s no way to sugarcoat it; puberty is tough. Teenagers are not only trying to find their place in the wider world, but often struggle with their self-worth as changing brain chemistry causes them to question people’s love and trust. Michael Hanson, the protagonist in E.L. Ervin’s new novel suffers similar adversity, which is all about to change when that armband he has been wearing since birth comes to dramatic life…

‘Michael Hanson and the Desolate Woods’ kicks off ‘The Powers of Ezron’ series of juvenile fiction with gusto. While of course chock-full of spellbinding adventure, the narrative serves as a vital companion for teens who may be unsure of just how valuable they really are.

Synopsis:

Michael Hanson’s pretty sure those changes don’t usually include waking up floating over your bed, but he’s begun levitating with alarming frequency. He’s also having strange dreams. Oh, and he’s starting to see through solid objects, too.

Michael’s coming into his heritage, even if he doesn’t know it. The teenager is an immortal of a powerful and ancient bloodline. After growing up an oddball, he’s going to discover he’s not the only one of his kind; once he finds his way to planet Ezron. Some, like the lovely Penelope Blazen and her parents, welcome him with open arms. Others wish the newly arrived Michael ill, including Penelope’s evil, chaos-driven uncle Zaric.

To fulfill his destiny and defeat Zaric, Michael will have to master his new powers and accept help from the unlikeliest of allies. If he fails, Michael’s immortality won’t outlast his adolescence.

“Michael’s armband causes him to be perceived as weird in school, and this shunning has seen him grow incredibly close to two friends, his sister and his adoring parents. But, when he gets called to work by another power, he suddenly finds himself navigating his own independence. While teenagers likely don’t wear mystical armbands, they all suffer similar dilemmas,” explains the author.

Continuing, “Puberty is a very tough time and young people require guidance. Sitting them down to talk often doesn’t work all of the time, so I am using the story within this book to share the wisdom all youngsters need to feel comfortable with themselves, realize they are loved more than they know, and drum up the confidence needed to take on the world with an iron fist. It also depicts things form the viewpoint of their parents – a rare perspective for people of that age.”

Ervin admits that she did not lack the love and support during her coming of age, and she hopes her book will reach out and touch the hearts of those who do question their parental bonds and/or lack the self-esteem necessary to venture into the adult world.

“No matter what problems you face throughout life, someone is always there and willing to help you. During your younger years, this is often your parents and closest friends. The story is chock-full of issues and scenarios young minds can relate to and will serve a huge boost to their self-esteem. But it’s not all about life lessons; expect heaps of comedy, sorcery, lasting memories and even the elusive tears. It will entertain, enlighten and engage readers of all ages. It’s one reading experience not to be missed!” she adds.

‘Michael Hanson and the Desolate Woods’ is due for release in December. For more news and information, visit the author’s official website: http://www.elervin.com or visit her on twitter: www.twitter.com/elervin1087.

About E.L. Ervin, in her own words
After seven and a half years of service, I left the US Navy to focus on raising my son and to pursue my dream of writing. I have loved reading since before I could write my own name, and I started writing my own stories and poems early, completing an entire novel at eight years old. I have been working on writing a series for a few years and was able to come up with this YA fantasy series of the Michael Hanson journeys.

I currently reside in Virginia Beach, Virginia, where I am working on my bachelor’s degree in biochemistry, my second love (science) and finishing up the second novel of this series.
