Voting by French radio listeners and magazine readers took place over two weeks and there were almost 40 cars in the running across four categories. The DS 5 took 30 percent of the votes in its category.

Citroen has of course revived the DS name from the much-loved 1950s original but the latest DS 5 doesn't hark back to the past. It combines stylish looks with refinement and attention to detail. There's plenty of up to date technology too with LED headlights and a cockpit-style driving position complete with a 7-inch touch screen. It will also have efficient engines and will be available with hybrid 4x4 technology and a 6-speed automatic gearbox. Safety is catered for too with blind spot and lane departure warning systems.

The full specification of the latest car hasn't yet been revealed and it won't be on sale in the UK until the later in the year.
