There was a time when obtaining a job with a Government body meant financial security for life. Government employees felt relaxed and secure in their positions because of the perception that the Government would be untouched by commercial financial crises.
Recent events have proven otherwise, with many Government jobs becoming redundant because of budget cuts.
The effect of a job loss on a Government employee can be devastating because many of them have skills that are directly linked to their positions. These skills will often not map across to the commercial world.
