Metro Tech Partners with the OKC Police Department for Pre-Law Enforcement Program

Oklahoma City, OK -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/29/2015 -- Metro Technology Centers have recently partnered with the Oklahoma City Police Department for the school's Pre-Law Enforcement Program.

Bill Citty, who is currently the Chief of Police for Oklahoma City, recently met with Oklahoma City Councilman Jon Pettis to discuss this program on Wednesday September 23rd. The meeting between the chief of police and the city councilman marked an important step in the new agreement that prepares Metro Tech students for the OKCPD Police Academy.

While there are a number of other schools in the area that offer programs to prepare students for law enforcement training, such as Douglass High School and Reno Vo-Tech, Metro Tech is the only one that has a specific and newly established agreement with the OKCPD.

This agreement ensures that students of Metro Tech will get certain perks when graduating, such as getting the opportunity to fill one of the 30 available spots to attend the OKCPD Cadet Academy in the summer of 2016.

There is also an OKCPD Cadet Coordinator assigned to the classroom to help students with anything they may need.

Sergeant Daugherty of the OKCPD was assigned to be a consistent part of the classroom presence for Metro Tech students who are trying to become police officers in the city. The Sergeant stated that it is his job to prepare students for the police academy by implementing policy standards in the classroom.

Daugherty also offers help for any students who are struggling with any aspect of the curriculum to help them be as successful as possible.

Chief Citty spent more than an hour at Metro Tech observing students as they went through their daily routine to get a better understanding of what the program is like and how it benefits all of its students.

Metro Tech is an Oklahoma technology school offering free tuition to Oklahoma City Public Schools, Crooked Oak Public Schools and Millwood Public Schools students.
