WhatsApp for iOS 2.16.8 Added Voice Message Function and More New Features

WhatsApp rolled out new iOS version 2.16.8 for iOS device users, which added a Voice Message function and other interesting features like a FixedSys font and GIF support.

Shenzhen, Guangdong -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/17/2016 -- The Facebook-owned WhatsApp updated its iOS version to 2.16.8 several days ago. This new version added a new Voice Message function, which is taking the messaging app a little closer to being a true phone replacement. The new feature enables iOS users to leave a voice message in case the recipient doesn't answer the call. Other new features like a FixedSys font and GIF support are also included in this update.

WhatsApp Messenger is a cross-platform mobile messaging app which allows people to exchange messages without having to pay for SMS. WhatsApp Messenger is available for iPhone, BlackBerry, Android, Windows Phone and Nokia and yes. And people have no need to worry about it in case they lost some important data when using WhatsApp. People can recover WhatsApp messages or WhatsApp attachments with ease.

People will find three options in the Voice Message function: Cancel, Call Back and Voice Message. Voice Message allows senders to leave a voice message for receivers in case they do not pick up the senders' WhatsApp call. The Call Back feature, as the name suggests, allows receivers to call back a person in case they were not picking up. There's also a Cancel option that simply closes the screen if people do not want to proceed with the call again.

Voice messages can now be left when calls are rejected or not answered by the person being called. On the bottom right of the call screen, there will be a microphone icon. When pressing and holding that, people can record a voicemail message that will be sent when they release the button.

Voice messages were in WhatsApp before this, so the recent update is more like a UI tweak to make leaving voice messages more convenient when calling someone. There's no way to play back the message before sending it, but if users don't like what they are recording, they can swipe left to cancel it before releasing the button.

The voice message will be sent to the contact as a record voice note and people will be able to listen to it whenever they want. It is good to know that this feature comes to WhatsApp a week after the company has included the option to send Olympic rings emoji.

WhatsApp is also working to add a new font called FixedSys to its iOS and Android app, a different font for chatting. Besides, a quote message feature will allow users to quote specific messages or media and also reply to them. The FixedSys font is similar to the one in Windows with the same name. This is, however, the only font option that seems to be available for WhatsApp right now.

After this update, WhatsApp also adds GIF support to its iOS app, people now can send, receive and download GIF files on WhatsApp. The messaging platform added support to share documents like PDFs and Doc files. Also, WhatsApp is now fully encrypted. This means that man-in-the-middle attacks are no longer possible on WhatsApp chats, and no third-party can read or listen in to the conversations.
