Philadelphia, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 01/19/2017 -- The Philadelphia Mummers Mardi Gras Parade in Manayunk is only one month away! On Saturday, February 18th, 2017 (rain date Sunday, February 19th, 2017), the Philadelphia Mummers Mardi Gras event will take place from 11 AM until 6 PM, and it will be complete with music, costumes, and more.
After a long year of waiting, the Mummers string bands are excited to get back to Manayunk for their third year. This parade allows city residents to get up close and personal with some of their favorite Mummers - the String Band Association. The Mummers Mardi Gras parade in Philadelphia helps keep the cherished tradition alive by giving viewers another opportunity to see their favorite string bands.
16 string bands will parade down Main Street in Manayunk between Shurs Lane and Green Lane from 11 AM to 1 PM. They will include the South Philadelphia String Band, the Woodland String Band, the Quaker City String Band, the Uptown String Band, the Greater Overbrook String Band, the Aqua String Band and much more.
The goal of this daylong celebration is to not only provide excitement for the people of Philadelphia but also to raise money and keep the Mummers tradition alive. With the event doubling as a fundraiser, the money that's earned will go towards maintaining the beautiful costumes and pageantry that make the Mummers who they are.

ADVENT first produced Mummers Mardi Gras in 2014 with the support of numerous sponsors and entertainment. The event was developed to keep the Mummers in the spotlight throughout the year, and create a new tradition in the process. The 2015 event was celebrated down Main Street in Manayunk, where families flocked to see the parade and performances of their favorite string bands and has been a major attraction ever since.
