Warrior 180 Foundation Backed Kayaking the Mississippi River for Veterans

Owensboro, KY -- (SBWIRE) -- 04/27/2017 -- Warrior 180 Foundation, a Christ-centered organization established to reach out to military, veterans and their families with the saving grace of Jesus Christ, is launching a suicide kayaking awareness in Mississippi River. The kayaking trip is to bring awareness to the 22 veterans a day who commit suicide.

In 2013, the United States Department of Veteran Affairs released a study that discovered suicides from 1999 to 2010, which showed that approximately 22 veterans commit suicide a day, or one veteran every 65 minutes. This shocking finding has, therefore, necessitated the move by Warrior 180 Foundation to create a kayaking awareness and show support for veterans.

Two men, Jeff and his son, Logan who is a wounded veteran, will be hitting the water in Itasca Minnesota with their two kayaks, to spend two months kayaking the Mississippi River to bring awareness to veterans' suicide. Jeff is a son of an Army veteran, and himself is also a veteran who grew up in South Dakota. He served eight years in the United States Army Reserves as the Battalion Chaplain, and he is a Master trainer for the US Army.

The event will kick off at Itasca Minnesota all the way down to the Gulf of Mexico in Louisiana. The two veterans are expected to cover 20 miles per day, and 2355 miles altogether during the two months of kayaking the entire Mississippi River. The event will kick-off on May 1st, 2017 and will hopefully end by June 30th, 2017. There will be daily updates online at every location in the River so as to keep the general public abreast of the progress and happenings of the event.
